Local Business Expands to Accommodate Future Growth

If you haven’t had the chance to try the assorted tasty jerky products from our local Medicine Hat Meat Traders, you are most certainly missing out!

The family-operated ranch located Northeast of Medicine Hat was established in 1932 and expanded into the beef jerky industry in 2006 after completing a Meat Processing Certificate at Olds College.

Since then their products have filled the shelves at grocery stores across the province and local farmer’s markets.

Due to the increasing demand for their Soft Beef Jerky and specialty Caesar Sticks, Joanne and Greg Pahl, the owners of MHMT, decided to begin an expansion project in late November of 2020.

That’s when our team of experts came in!

Our teams at Terralta and AirTech had the pleasure of working with the Pahls years ago during the building of their first production facility, which included the installation of solar panels, refrigerators and freezers. When the opportunity arose for MHMT to expand and build a larger production building last fall, they didn’t hesitate to contact our team to utilize our expert services once again.

Our team jumped into the project headfirst and leveraged our vast variety of expertise to help complete the expansion project for this local entrepreneur. Our involvement included a full HVAC installation, custom-built coolers and freezer doors, in-floor boiler heat and HRV air circulation, a full plumbing system complete with food-grade hygienic floor drains, and UV Angel installations in multiple rooms.

According to Joanne, the decision to include UV Angels in their expansion was a no-brainer.

We want to be top of the line in food safety and if we want to become federal we want to do it right. We want to be known as a clean and reputable facility and the UV Angels will help with that.
— Joanne Pahl, Owner at Medicine Hat Meat Traders

The Pahls are hopeful that this top-of-the-line food-grade production facility will help them achieve their goal of being able to expand their reach and offer their products Canada-wide.

During the 8-month long project, we were delighted to work alongside John and his team at Rodermond Enterprises. This is one of many projects that we have had the privilege to work on together and John makes it easy for our teams to work in close collaboration because he shares our same passion for supporting other local businesses.

I am very happy that a local entrepreneur chose to hire local contractors and subcontractors. Greg and Joanne are firm believers in supporting local businesses which is important as their base is here.
— John Rodermond, Owner at Rodermond Enterprises

We take pride in knowing that our involvement in the Medicine Hat Meat Traders expansion project will help set them up for success in achieving their goal of offering their products to consumers across the nation.

Projects like this highlight not only our diverse range of services but also the continued importance of supporting other local businesses, especially during these uncertain times.

Thank you, Joanne and Greg Pahl!
